A Redele (A Wheel)

 

Jake Shulman-Ment's debut solo album, “A Redele,” is a lushly virtuosic, sensitive exploration of the almost limitless possibilities within the klezmer violin genre. Featuring ecstatic, soulful, original compositions and improvisations as well as old Jewish and Gypsy melodies inspired by his extensive travels in Romania and Hungary, this recording displays Jake's remarkable versatility as violinist, composer, improvisor, arranger, and bandleader. Although the instrumentation maintains a consistently old-world sound throughout, Shulman-Ment's influences from Romanian Gypsy, classical, rock, and improvised music shine through in natural and surprising ways.
